Selection a diet that is right for you

There is not a day that goes by that we are not confronted with one or another diet. The media bombards us with reports, statistics, articles and even footage of obese people and greasy foods we should avoid and resist.

That is easier said than done, as right after reading about the latest calorie-counting diet, the next page in the magazine tempts us with a picture of a delicious dessert, dripping with chocolate and sugar coating. Who would not get confused by these conflicting messages!
The key to successful weight loss is finding a diet that best suits your lifestyle and budge. Be it counting calories, the Weight Watchers points system, cabbage soup, vegetarian, Atkins, South Beach, Low Carbohydrates, Body For Life, low GI- diet, or the Zone diet, ultimately you will have to figure out which one fits your meal schedule, taste and endurance level.

Losing weight through dieting is often only a quick fix. Lasting results and success can only be reached through a lifestyle change which will include a regular exercise routine and healthy eating habits. Small portions which should include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables should be spread over the entire day instead of having only three main meals. Know your limits, and do not force yourself to eat more, even if the other table guests insist.

Diets that keep you hungry are unhealthy, and starvation only puts your body into shock. These extreme weight loss methods never last because the human body cannot adapt. In the end the weight will return and you will feel even more distressed about your appearance then before. Therefore it is better to find a well-balanced diet, which includes lots of healthy food choices.

Healthy foods usually recommended in many diets include fruits and vegetables, legumes, herbs, grains, and fish. The less processed, or chemically altered they are, the better. Healthy foods are low in calories, yet nutritional, providing dietary substances the body uses for growth, repair, and keeping our body alive, active and healthy.
