Deciphering Your Health Insurance Quotes
For people who do not receive their Cigna health insurance through their employer’s pre-selected plan, navigating the world of health insurance can be a frightening thing. However, if you arm yourself with some basic information, you can make your life a whole lot easier.
One thing that many people do is search online for a listing of health insurance quotes from all of the different providers. Of course, you may have very many or very few available providers depending on your state, but most people have access to at least a few. When you get a list of comparable health quotes, there is often a large gap between the prices of one set and the prices of another. Why is this?
On the most basic level, there are two sorts of health insurance: Managed Care Health Insurance and Indemnity Insurance.
Managed Care focuses on “preventative” medicine and costs a lot less, and Indemnity focuses on complete coverage, though it can cost very much. It is extremely important that you know what you can expect from both of these types of plans. For some people, managed care is cheap but entirely the wrong choice, whereas for other people indemnity care may be a waste of money. Let us take a closer look.
Managed Care
Many insurers are moving to this model of treatment, as it generally involves a great deal of reduced costs for the insurance company. The most basic tenet of managed care is that the insurer provides you, the insured, with a very large financial incentive to only seeking medical services from doctors and hospitals that are in the insurance company’s “network.”
There are a few different types of managed care plans. The main difference is the method that the annuity quotes companies pay for your health care services. With an HMO-style plan, you pay a selected amount every month and have a number of services available to you from in-network health care providers. With a PPO-style plan, you pay your insurance every month and are re-imbursed for health care services you use every month as long as you stay in your insurer’s network. A PPO involves co-payments and deductibles in most instances, but also tends to cost a bit less than an HMO.
The big problem with having a managed care style of plan is that there are huge penalties for seeing a doctor or using a hospital that is out of network. In most cases, you will pay full price for treatment and there will be almost no recourse. If you travel a lot or your medical needs are not always predictable, then a managed care plan is not recommended. On the other hand, if you are in generally good health and only need to see the doctor for regular check-ups, then a managed health care plan will be very cost effective for you and your needs.
Indemnity
An indemnity plan works by reimbursing you for your medical expenses regardless of where you incur them. In the old days, indemnity plans were very common and in most areas of the country the only type of plan that was available. Today, many insurers offer managed care because full-indemnity can end up costing them a lot of money.
With that said, it is still possible to find and receive indemnity insurance. Your monthly premium will end up being much more than on a managed care plan, but you will have more coverage. If you anticipate your health care costs being unpredictable, or you travel and/or move a lot, then an indemnity plan may be just right for you.
The one thing to watch out for on these sorts of florida health insurance is the terms of reimbursement. Pay close attention to co-payments and deductibles. As these plans have been becoming more unfavorable for insurers, they have increasingly begun to offer less favorable reimbursement plans. You will also have to keep close track of your medical expenses so that you can make the most effective claims on your insurance.
Which type of plan is best for you?
When you’re looking through your health insurance quotes, you will notice how much cheaper managed care plans are. Unfortunately, choosing the best plan for you is a lot harder than simply finding the best price. You have to think long and hard about your personal health care requirements.
